Louisiana Appellate Map

The Louisiana Circuit Courts of Appeal are the intermediate appellate courts in Louisiana. There are five courts in this appellate system. The courts were established in 1879. A court of appeal takes appeals from the district courts. The Circuit Courts of Appeal have jurisdiction in civil cases, cases appealed from family and juvenile courts, and most criminal cases. Usually, the panels are comprised of three judges. Understanding which appellate jurisdiction may hear your potential appeals will have a tremendous effect on the outcome of your case. If you have questions regarding Appellate jurisdiction, the lawyers at Montiel Hodge are happy to discuss venue analysis with you.
